Explain why a spreadsheet is more suitable than a database for data analysis in the above scenario.?

Dirt Bikes Ltd. (Laudon & Laudon, Essentials of MIS, 2004) would like to replace the desktop office productivity software used by its administrative staff. A spreadsheet was used for comparing prices of different software packages. The findings have been summarised in a spreadsheet and presented to management.

(a)Explain why a spreadsheet is more suitable than a database for data analysis in the above scenario.

A spreadsheet has functions and mathamatical capabilities. These are usefull for calculating percentages, and doing what if calculations.

A database stores data, and presents different views of the data. It is not really designed for doing calculations based upon the data.

With a bit of work, you can use the spreadsheet to analyze the data in your database.

good luck.

A spreadsheet is more suitable because you can use pivot tables and charts to quickly compare the data whereas a database would require the creation of reports in order to look at the data in a meaningful way.
